'The Jungle Book' -inspired speakeasy bar

If you are a lover of speakeasy bars, or even if you are interested in the decor of speakeasy bars, take note of this bar: Bagheera in Vancouver, Canada, is the most beautifully designed speakeasy bar we've seen in a long time. Reminiscent of a train cabin, Bagheera was inspired by Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book. Drawing on 19th and 20th century Indian and French references, Bagheera offers its guests a maximalist and theatrical experience.
Designed by Bergman Design House, founded by Marie Soliman and Albin Berglund, Bagheera is accessed through a shop (also called Happy Valley Turf Club) where bets are placed on horse races. First you bet on "King Louie" and then you get access to the bar with a password!
JOURNEY THROUGH THE JUNGLE
"Bagheera is an experience like traveling back in time, searching and hunting for a treasure," says Marie Soliman.
The entrance to the bar is decorated with original postcards of India in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The lavish 60-seat main cocktail lounge is decorated in shades of gold, deep red, teal and purple. More than 1,000 coins and bangles sourced from antique markets in Delhi and Jaipur sparkle throughout the space.
“We incorporated a luxurious blend of fabrics and fittings throughout to really dial up the glamour in the space,” says Marie Soliman. “Think rich velvets combined with dark hardwoods and gold detailing”.
“The space offers a total theatrical experience!” says Albin Berglund. “It’s no secret that through our studio we like to bring maximalism and opulence (or what we call ‘organised chaos’) to our work and this jewel might be the truest expression of our signature style that we’ve done”.
