With its unique architecture, design and interior created by Kvorning Design, Salmon Eye is a venue that emerged with the vision of inspiring and informing the world about how we can better feed the planet with sustainable seafood. They explain their purpose: “Salmon Eye offers a guided learning experience focused on the footprint of the aquaculture industry in Norway”. The project was conceived and financed by Sondre Eide, CEO of Norwegian Eide Fjordbruk and a third generation salmon entrepreneur. Salmon Eye stands out with its elliptical design and exterior that mimics the shiny, silvery skin of a salmon. So much so that the Salmon Eye can even be seen from satellite images of Google Earth. Salmon Eye, which is a candidate to become an iconic seafood brand in Norway, also has a newly opened mystery: Iris. The restaurant is run by Danish chef Anika Madsen, known for her passion for discovering new ocean ingredients and her commitment to sustainability. Ocak 2021 | Seyahat | Türkiye Get Away Duo: Arda ve Sarper A rda Önen: Bodrum’un 21 yıllık ikonik mekanı Sail Loft’un sahibi. Sarper Sesli: 12 yıldır Güney Afrika’da yaşayan, turizm şirketi Ride The Earth ile dünyanın dört bir yanına motosiklet turları düzenleyen bir maceracı gezgin. Bu iki doğa tutkunu yakın dost pandemi döneminde yollara düştü, Anadolu’yu gezmeye başladılar. Bir süre sonra da maceralarına herkesi ortak etmek için “Get Away Duo Project”i yarattılar. Gerisi Arda Önen’in ağzından… Pandemi olmasaydı bu yollara düşme projesi ortaya çıkar mıydı? Aslında iki yıl önce de Kars’a arabayla gitme fikrim vardı. Ancak pandemi öncesi meğer hayat çok hızlıymış! Zaman yaratamadım. O plan rafa kalktı. Yaz başında İsmail Polat’la şu an yaşadığımız kapanmaları öngörmüş ve bu yol projesini çalışmaya başlamıştık zaten. Mekanlarımın kapalı olması da bir fırsat yaratmış oldu. Hemen planlar yapıldı, araçlar yüklendi ve teker döndü. Bu yol maceralarında ikinizle gezmek isteyenlere vaat ettikleriniz neler? Farkınız ne? İlk başta kendimiz gezelim diye plan yaptık. Hazırlık aşamasında konudan bahsettiğimiz arkadaşlarımız, “Biz de geliriz, evde olmaktan yorulduk” gibi yorumlar yapınca proje biraz değişti. Bu noktada etkinlikler ekledik. Yeme-içme ile ilgili sürprizler hazırladık. Mesela umulmadık bir yerde, doğanın ortasında, iyi bir şefin yaptığı yemeklerle bir öğle yemeği yemek. Ya da arabadan gitarını çıkartıp ateş başında küçük bir dinleti yapmak gibi... Sarper bu maceradaki yol ortağın. Onunla nasıl keşişti yolun? Sarper çocukluk arkadaşım. Beraber çok seyahatimiz oldu. Araba ya da motosikletle. Güney Afrika’da yaşıyor ve dünyanın dört bir yanına macera seyahatleri düzenliyor. Pandemi kaynaklı ertelemelerden dolayı Türkiye’de kaldı. Bu konularda tecrübeli olduğu ve çok iyi anlaştığımız için harika bir ortaklık oldu. Hatta şunu da eklemeliyim. Sarper olduğu için projeyi biraz değiştirip geliştiriyoruz. Yeni bir instagram hesabı ile önümüzdeki günlerde duyuracağız. Çok heyecanlıyız… Şu anda belli olan hangi rotalar var? Kars - Çıldır (25-29 Ocak) Kapadokya - Aladağlar (Şubatta) Ovit Dağı (Şubatta) Pandemiyle beraber karayolu cazip hale geldi. Araçla gitmenin avantajı ve dezavantajları neler? Araba yolculuğunu sevenler için avantajlar oldukça çok! En önemlisi kendi araçlarıyla gelenler, kendi grubuyla oluyor. Sosyal mesafe için çok rahatlatıcı bir durum. Soğuk destinasyonlara gittiğimiz için rahatça ve bolca kalın kıyafet, bot, fotoğraf makinesi gibi malzemeleri arabalara alabiliyorsunuz. İstenildigi yerde kısa molalar verebiliyoruz. Aracımızda minik bir mutfak olduğundan istediğimiz yerde durup bir şeyler hazırlayabiliyoruz. Hangi aracı kullanıyorsun? Biz yola donanımlı yüksek bir 4x4 ile çıktık. Bir yere batıp kalırsa kendini kurtaracak vinci var. Çünkü biz seyahatlerden önce kendimizi keşfe gidiyoruz. Tepelere çıkıyoruz, karlı dar yollara giriyoruz. Ama günün sonunda bizimle gelecekler için en güvenli yolu seçip programa koyuyoruz. Kars programı heyecan verici. Oraya gelenleri neler bekliyor? Kars bizi de çok heyecanlandırıyor. Occupying the 40th to 45th floors of the magnificent Tokyo Midtown Yaesu skyscraper, the hotel offers stunning views of the city, including the Imperial Palace Gardens and the iconic Mount Fuji in the distance. As with all Bvlgari Hotels & Resorts, the interior design of Bvlgari Hotel Tokyo was entrusted to the Italian architecture and interior design firm ACPV ARCHITECTS. Founded in 2000 by Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel, ACPV masterfully translates Bvlgari’s grandeur, craftsmanship, and dedication to artistic details into the hotel, creating spaces that embody the sophisticated essence of Italian style. Even the transition from the world of Bvlgari to the streets of Tokyo embraces the spirit of Rome! A striking example of this is the typical Roman sanpietrino cobblestones, first used in 1725 in St. Peter’s Square to ensure the Pope’s carriage could travel safely, and now seen on historic streets throughout Rome. Guests enter the reception area through sliding doors covered with peacock-patterned fabric—a tribute to traditional Japanese architecture. Inside, a circular lobby with a black granite floor features the eight-pointed star, a symbol of the brand, crafted from travertine stone, which has been widely used in Rome since ancient times. Another elegant detail is the large elevator adorned with illustrations of colorful brooches from the Bvlgari Archives, including the legendary 1970 Bvlgari Mount Fuji brooch, now a symbol of the hotel. DESIGNED LIKE AN ANCIENT PAVILION Located between two rooftop terraces, the rooftop Bvlgari Bar is one of the hotel’s highlights. Designed like an old pavilion in a historic Italian garden, the bar features fully glass doors. In summer, the glass panels open entirely, seamlessly merging the indoors with the outdoors. The bar's floor is made of Venetian terrazzo, while the garden outside is adorned with glass mosaics representing a “Garden of Wonders,” specially created by Italian artist Bisazza and magnificently showcased behind the bar counter. FROM MILAN TO TOKYO The hotel’s star restaurant is Il Ristorante - Niko Romito, the Tokyo counterpart of the restaurant located in Bvlgari Hotel Milan, led by three-Michelin-starred chef Niko Romito. The restaurant is set in a lofty space surrounded by a curved wooden ceiling reminiscent of the windows and doors of traditional Japanese temples. August 2024 | Travel TURKISH BELOW PATMOS GUIDE words Onur Baştürk CHORA In this beautiful village around the historic St. John's Monastery, you should first have dinner at Vaggelis. The beef ragu is very good, but the service team at Vaggelis is very snobbish and reservations are very problematic. Your options for the later hours are both close together and very entertaining: Stoa, Thalami, Astivi and Pougki. In fact, most people go to the Casbah after socializing at the Stoa. GRIKOS The favorite of the Grikos bay is of course the Patmos Aktis Hotel. The hotel, which stands out for its elegant, sophisticated and simple architectural design, has 56 rooms. All rooms and suites are very spacious. Be sure to swim at the Patmos Aktis beach and dine at the Plefsis Tavern. Petra Bay, just in front of Patmos Aktis, catches the eye with the beauty of its sea. There is a shabby bar-restaurant here. But be careful, the toilets are terrible! Plaki beach on the south side of Petra is the favorite of nudists. SKALA The biggest village on the island. Long-time vacationers and "hangovers" all meet at Houston in the square and have brunch. The Patmians is another social gathering place right next to Houston. It is essential to go to Ginger and Kasbah late at night. Kasbah, in particular, is famous for its after-parties that start after 3 a.m. Benetos, in the quiet bay of Sapsila, just outside Skala, is a popular 14-table restaurant opened by Susan Matthaiou in the summer of '97. Reservations by phone. Benetos also has a restaurant in Chora. KAMPOS At the far end of this region is a lovely bay, Geranos (Livadi Geranou). Geranos is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. In Kampos Bay, our favorites are two different places: The first one is a beach club, Atmos. More comfortable and stylish. The other one is more bohemian, Sea Sun. The restaurant on Lampi Beach is one of our favorites for lunch. This restaurant serves fresh seafood and you should try the lobster noodles. PSILI AMMOS This is probably one of the most difficult places to reach on the island. You reach at a certain point with your car or motorcycle, the rest is a 40-minute walk! What awaits you when you reach Psili Ammos by passing the hills is a beautiful beach, a sea often wavy, and a cute restaurant with especially great french fries and meatballs. LEFKES There is a secret paradise where everyone goes at sunset. It's called Lefkes. On this beach there's a bar made of caravans. They only serve ouzo and wine. And fries and calamari! But when you see the sunset, you don't want anything else. One warning: There are no toilets here. You should come accordingly. Uzun süre tatil yapanlar ve ‘geceden kalma’ olanların hepsi meydandaki Houston’da buluşup geç kahvaltı yapıyor. The Patmians ise hemen Houston’un yanında bir başka sosyalleşme mekanı. Gece geç saatlerde Ginger ve Kasbah’a gitmek elzem. Özellikle Kasbah gece 03.00’dan sonra başlayan ‘after’ partileriyle ünlü. Skala’nın biraz dışında, Sapsila isimli sakin koyda konuşlanan Benetos ise Susan Matthaiou’nun ’97 yazında açtığı 14 masalık popüler bir restoran. Rezervasyonu telefonla yapıyorlar. Bu arada Benetos’un bir de Chora’da restoranı var. KAMPOS Bu bölgenin en ucunda nefis bir koy var, Geranos (Livadi Geranou). Geranos adanın en güzel denizine sahip plajlardan biri. Tepeleri aşarak Psili Ammos’a vardığınız zaman sizi bekleyen şey ise nefis bir kumsal, çoğu zaman dalgalı bir deniz ve özellikle köftesiyle patates kızartması müthiş olan şirin bir lokanta. The Paredero Hotel, which opened in 2021, has also put another little-known side of Mexico on travelers' radar, the small beach town of Todos Santos, at the far end of the Baja California peninsula below San Diego. Overlooking the Pacific Ocean coast, the Paradero describes itself as more of a landscape project with luxury suites than a hotel. They are right in their assertions. That's because all the suites overlook the meticulously landscaped gardens, where the cactus plays the starring role. Paradero's architectural and landscape design is by the Mexican design studio Polen Arquitectura de Paisaje. Inspired by the ever-changing desert, the Polen team is excited about Paradero: “The wind and the seasons constantly reshape the desert. A single movement of the wind changes the desert. We worked on a wind-inspired design without clean lines to emphasize this movement. The appearance of the desert also changes because of water and rain, albeit rarely. The color, smell, and texture of all the desert flora can change in the blink of an eye. We have used only plants native to the region to highlight this fantastic event. So these plants have grown naturally without additional water or human intervention. This way, hotel guests can experience the desert in its truest form”. Based on the idea of “water and its perceptive senses”, Poland's design team created a stream of water that flows through the hotel, leading guests to a natural oasis. Roads were built from the softest sand in the region to complement this experience and encourage guests to walk barefoot simultaneously. I think it's great! THE DESERT SHOWS ITSELF SLOWLY An idea about the desert exists: “The desert reveals everything little by little to the one who tries to discover it. There is also a special way to get there”. The same path was fallowed in the design of Paradero. Like the desert itself, which is vast and wide but made up of unique areas, the goal was to experience the desert as you walked through Paradero. In fact, the team of Poles designed the most significant part of the hotel's creation process, inspired by their travels in the desert of Baja California: “We walked on old roads, feeling the textures and enjoying each piece. We grew endemic desert species in a special greenhouse for over a year and we planted these young plants alongside many old seedlings that already exist in the area. This allowed us to combine different species at different altitudes to simulate natural growth in the desert”. PUEBLO MAGIC: TODOS SANTOS - With the most favorable climate in Baja Sur and described as a “Pueblo Magic” (magical town), Todos Santos is a haven for artists, artisans, surfers, and travelers seeking adventure, natural beauty, and a healthy lifestyle. - While you are here, visit the world-famous surf spot Playa Los Cerritos and the charming neighboring village of El Pescadero. Çölün görünümü seyrek de olsa su ve yağmurla da değişir. Tüm çöl florasının rengi, kokusu ve dokusu bir anda farklılaşabilir. Bu fantastik olayı vurgulayabilmek için sadece bölgeye özgü bitkileri kullandık. Böylece bu bitkiler fazladan su ya da insan müdahalesine ihtiyaç duymadan doğal olarak yetişti. Paradero’nun tasarımında da bu yol izlenmiş. Uçsuz bucaksız ve geniş olmasına rağmen benzersiz alanlardan oluşan çölün kendisi gibi, Paradero’nun içinde dolaşırken çölü keşfetme deneyimini yaşatılmak istenmiş. Nitekim Polen ekibi otelin yaratım sürecinin en önemli kısmını Baja Kaliforniya çölüne yaptıkları gezilerden ilhamla oluşturmuş: “Antik yollarda yürüdük, dokuları hissettik, her bir parçanın tadını çıkardık. Bir yılı aşkın bir süre özel bir serada çöle özgü endemik türler yetiştirdik ve o genç bitkileri bölgede zaten var olan birçok yaşlı fidenin yanına diktik. Geranos adanın en güzel denizine sahip plajlardan biri. Plajın hemen karşısında, üzerinde bir şapelin yer aldığı küçük bir ada var. Bu adaya yüzerek çıkmak çok zevkli. Geranos’ta küçük bir lokanta da mevcut. Giderseniz kabak kızartması ve Alfa birası söyleyin. En güzel ikili! Geranos’un gerisinde yer alan ise Kampos koyunda ise favorimiz iki farklı mekan: İlki bir beach club, Atmos. Daha konforlu ve şık. Diğeri ise Bodrum’daki Sail Loft havasındaki Sea Sun. Kampos’ta önereceğimiz bir başka koy ise Agrio Livadi. Burada da koyla aynı adı taşıyan restoran favorimiz. Kampos’un meydanında ise tatlı bir taverna var: Panagos. Yemekleri leziz, özellikle öğleden sonra yemeğe buraya gelen çok. Kampos tarafından son önerimiz ise Lefkes koyu. Rüzgârlı günlerinde denk gelirseniz denizi çok dalgalı olabilir. Aracınız ya da motorunuzla bir yere kadar gidiyorsunuz, sonrası 40 dakikalık bir yürüyüş! Tepeleri aşarak Psili Ammos’a vardığınız zaman sizi bekleyen şey ise nefis bir kumsal, çoğu zaman dalgalı bir deniz ve özellikle köftesiyle patates kızartması müthiş olan şirin bir lokanta. Where to go in Patmos Words | Onur Baştürk C heck out our Patmos recommendations… CHORA: First go to Vaggelis and have dinner in great village around the historic Saint John's Monastery. Especially its 'Beef Ragu' and Saganaki are amazing. For later, your options are close and fun: Stoa, Thalami, Astivi and Pougki. In almost all of them, after 01.30, the music accelerates and people dance inside. Thalami's little room turns into a kind of “Gizli Kalsın”. Stoa and Astivi are already in the same building. When bored with one, there is a chance to look at the other. Astivi is like a maze, it has lots of space to dance and socialize. Pougki, on the other hand, gets crowded later in the night. SKALA: The largest village on the island. Skala is the first place you will see when you get off the ferry. Houston, located in the central square, is like the Lucca of this place. All long-term foreigners have a late breakfast here. The Patmians is another socializing place. This place gets crowded in the evenings too. In the late hours, go to Ginger and Kasbah. Especially Kasbah is famous for its after parties that start after 03.00 at night. There is even a 'guest list' at the door. They don't let everyone in. Here the fun continues until morning. Benetos, located in a quiet bay called Sapsila, a little outside of Skala, is a favorite of Turkish tourists. Reservation is essential for this popular 14-table restaurant, which Susan Matthaiou opened in the summer of '97. KAMPOS: There is a beautiful bay at the far end of this region. Its name of Geranos (also known as Livadi Geranou). Geranos is one of the beaches with the most beautiful sea on the island. Just across the beach is a small island with a chapel on it. It is very enjoyable to swim to this island. There is also a small restaurant in Geranos. Order zucchini fries and Alpha beer if you go. On the other hand, in Kampos Bay, which is behind Geranos, two different places are our favorite: The first is a beach club, Atmos. Comfortable and stylish. The other is Sea Sun, which is in the mood of Sail Loft in Bodrum. Another bay we would recommend in Kampos is Agrio Livadi. Here, the restaurant with the same name as the bay is our favourite. There is a sweet tavern in the square of Kampos: Panagos. The food is delicious, especially in the afternoon, many people come here for dinner. Our last recommendation from Kampos is Lefkes Bay. If you come across on windy days, the sea can be very wavy. But it is one of the most ideal places to watch the sunset. There's also a small bar made from a trailer. A bohemian and self-contained place. GRIKOS: Of course, the favorite of Grikos bay is Patmos Aktis hotel. At the hotel's beach, which stands out with its elegant, sophisticated and simple architectural design free of excesses, take a swim in the beach and have a meal at the Plefsis tavern in the afternoon. Petra Bay, located a little ahead of Patmos Aktis, draws attention with the beauty of its sea. There is also a shabby bar-restaurant here. The beach called Plaki, located on the south side of Petra, is a favorite of nudists. PSILI AMMOS: This is probably one of the most difficult to reach bays of the island! You go to a place with your car or motor, then a 40-minute walk! When you reach Psili Ammos by crossing the hills, what awaits you is a beautiful beach, often a choppy sea, and a cute restaurant, especially with meatballs and french fries.

Bir gece orada kaldıktan sonra ertesi sabah kiraladığımız araba ile Amangiri’ye doğru yola düştük. ÖNCE GRAND CANYON 446 kilometre uzunluğundaki Grand Canyon, Arizona’da bulunmasına rağmen Utah ve Nevada’ya kadar uzanıyor. Las Vegas’tan doğuya doğru yönelirseniz üç saat içinde ana kanyona ve derin yarların bulunduğu ‘National Park’a ulaşıyorsunuz. Bu park kanyonlar bölgesinin en ucunda. Kanyon, Colarado Nehri’nin kanalı milyonlarca yılda yarmasıyla oluşmuş ve bazı bölgelerinde derinlik 1600 metreye kadar ulaşıyor! Bu inanılmaz dev yarlara bakınca dünyanın iki milyar yıllık tarihine de tanıklık etmiş oluyorsunuz. BÜYÜLEYİCİ: ZION NATIONAL PARK Kuzeye doğru ilerledikçe doğa gerçekten vahşi batıya dönüşüyor. Geçitleri, tünelleri, dağlarda trekking yapan insanları ve yemyeşil deresiyle büyüleyici bir yer! NAVAJO YERLİLERİNİN ŞİFRELERİ Sırada Grand Canyon’un en kuzey ucunda bulunan, Lake Powell kıyısındaki Antelope Canyon var. Burası Amerika’nın yaşayan en büyük Kızılderili kabilesi ‘Navajo Reservation’ın ana yerleşim bölgesi. Bu noktada izlemeyenler için 1992 yapımı Windtalkers (Rüzgarla Konuşanlar) filmini anımsatayım. Filmde Navajo yerlilerinin gerçek hikayesi anlatılır. Hikaye de şu: İkinci Dünya Savaşı sırasında Japonlar, Amerikalıların geliştirdiği her şifreyi kırıp haberleşmelerini dinlemeyi başarır. Bunun üzerine Amerikan ordusu yüzlerce Navajo yerlisini askere alır ve onların konuştuğu dilden kırılması çok zor yeni bir kod geliştirir. Bu yerliler Pasifik’te haberleşmede görev alır ve anında şifre çözüp Amerikan ordusunun hızını artırmaya yardımcı olurlar. SONUNDA ‘AMANGİRİ’ GÖRÜNDÜ! Varış noktamıza çeşitli badireler atlatarak, sekiz saatlik bir araba yolculuğu sonrası ulaşıyoruz ama Amangiri Oteli o denli doğa içinde kaybolmuş bir yer ki, ufacık tabelasının önünden geçip gidiyoruz tabii ki! Nihayetinde, “Kapınız nerede?” diye oteli arıyoruz ve tekrar geriye dönüp koskoca kanyonların içindeki ufacık zili buluyoruz! Kapı açılıyor. Bu kez bir yolda ilerlemeye başlıyoruz. Ama git git, hala gözüken bir bina yok! Yolun sonunda doğanın içine oyulmuş ve neredeyse onunla bir olmuş ‘resort’un kapısına ulaşıyoruz. BU OTELDE KİMSE YOK MU? Doğal ortama uyması, hatta kaybolması için büyük çaba sarf edilmiş mimarisi ve kaya oluşumlarını içine alan havuzuyla gerçekten dünyanın en güzel resort otellerinden biri Amangiri. Oteldeki her şey açık toprak rengi. Otelin dışı kadar iç bölümlerinde de bu sakinlik, dinginlik tonu devam ediyor. Otel 34 süitten oluşuyor. Hemen her Aman’da olduğu gibi burada da diğer odalarda kalan müşterilerle karşılaşmıyorsunuz. Sanki bütün resort kendi evinizmiş gibi hissediyorsunuz. Genelde kalanlar akşam yemeklerini kanyon manzaralı teraslarında yiyor. Otelin restoranında tek tük insan oluyor. 23.00’DAN SONRA İÇKİ YOK! Bu arada bana çok ilginç gelen bir kuralla karşılaştık. Amangiri’nin de konuşlandığı Utah’ın kanunlarına göre sadece sabah 11.00 ve akşam 23.00 arası içki servisi yapılabiliyor. Amangiri’de restoran harici bar zaten yok. Süitlerdeki mini barlarda da içki bulunmuyor. Yani gece 23.05 gibi bir bardak şarap alayım derseniz, yasak! “Yahu kanyonların ortasındayız, kim görecek bizi?” diye tutturmama rağmen, “Kural kuraldır” demişti otel görevlileri bana. Bu açıdan kendine özgü bir eyalet Utah. Popüler kültürde Salt Lake City ve Sundance Film Festivali ile bilinse de farklı katmanlara sahip. Halkının büyük çoğunluğunu oluşturan tutucu Mormonlar’ın inanış ve kuralları eyaletin bütününü etkilemiş durumda. Hemen hemen hiç bar bulunmayan eyalette, garsonların size “Ne içersiniz?” diye sormaları bile yasak! Ancak kendiniz içki istediğiniz takdirde servis yapılıyor bu eyalette. Eyaletin Arizona’ya yakın olan taraflarında ise Kızılderili inanışları ve yaşamı halen hüküm sürüyor. Bunun yanı sıra Utah, Amerika’nın en az polisiye vakalarının olduğu, en temiz ve yaşam şartlarının yüksek olduğu bir eyalet aynı zamanda.

Umberto 121 is located in the center of this village, in a typical Tuscan building. The emergence of Umberto 121 was during the Covid epidemic! The homeowner couple in the leading role of this story were living in Barcelona at the time and decided to buy this place in the summer of 2020. Afterwards everything was very fast. A few months later, the couple left Barcelona with their two daughters and settled in Montisi, a town with a population of 300. MORE FRESCOES EMERGE Dating back to the 14th century, Umberto 121 is undergoing a renovation process, preserving its original architecture and features reflecting different periods, in line with the passion and guidance of its new homeowners. First of all, the house is cleared of unnecessary elements which were added in recent years. Thus, frescoes from 1800 and mosaics from 1930 become more visible. Then, the rooms and common areas are renovated with attention to detail. The original doors, floors, exposed beams and 19th-century frescoes remain untouched. As a matter of fact, the homeowners, who saw that only the walls of two rooms were covered with frescoes when they bought the house, begin to unearth more and more frescoes day by day. In about an hour, we’ll begin our descent into Mahé, where the turquoise waters and lush landscapes of the Seychelles await. Sit back, relax, and enjoy this beautiful flight.” Can a morning be more delightful than waking up to this phrase instead of an alarm clock? With a hot coffee in hand and the endless Indian Ocean bathed in the embrace of the rising sun outside the airplane window, it feels like the perfect beginning to an unforgettable journey. MAHÉ, FOUR SEASONS HOTEL Raindrops patter against the hood of the car as it carries us south from the airport toward the Four Seasons resort on Mahé. Along the way, it feels as though we’re driving through a massive botanical garden. The rain enhances the greenery, making it so vivid and surreal that it seems almost artificial. The plan is simple: a few days of blending water adventures with leisurely relaxation and candlelit dinners by the beach before venturing into the untamed wilderness of the islands. This very feeling inspired Jacques Cousteau’s iconic film The Silent World, dedicated to the Seychelles. And rightly so! Such pristine air and the unspoiled voice of nature can only be found here. If zoological museums once showcased rare species of flora and fauna, they should now add to their collections—pure air and untouched wilderness. Curieuse is home to one of Seychelles’ most iconic inhabitants: the Aldabra giant tortoises. Hundreds roam freely across the island, their slow, deliberate movements a stark contrast to the ocean’s lively energy. Watching these gentle giants in their natural habitat is a humbling experience. Their ancient shells seem to carry the weight of time itself, as if they’ve witnessed Earth’s secrets long before humans arrived. Walking through Vallée de Mai is like stepping into a primeval world, where the canopy filters sunlight into golden beams and the rustle of palm fronds echoes through the stillness. Adding to the magic, you may spot the elusive Seychelles black parrot, a bird as rare as the forest it calls home. COCO ISLAND From Praslin, we set sail to tiny yet mesmerizing Coco Island, a jewel in Seychelles’ crown. Surrounded by a vibrant coral reef, it’s a haven for snorkelers and divers alike. Beneath the crystal-clear waters, schools of parrotfish, angelfish, and butterflyfish glide among coral gardens, creating an underwater kaleidoscope of colors. It was here that we had one of the most magical encounters of our journey—a meeting with two sea turtles gliding gracefully through the shallows. One of them, curious and unbothered by our presence, seemed to invite us into its world. As we swam alongside, it paused, allowing me to mimic a dance with its gentle movements. This unspoken connection felt like sharing a secret known only to the sea. LA DIGUE Our journey continues to La Digue, an island famed for its cycling trails and absence of cars. Once, there were only a couple of trucks here; now, a growing fleet of golf buggies shuttles tourists arriving by ferry. A few hundred meters from the port, the true adventure begins, weaving through coconut plantations, sleepy micro-villages, and winding paths where the only sound is the distant crash of waves. La Digue is one place we sometimes skip visiting ashore, yet we never miss anchoring nearby for a midday stop. From here, we access the island’s most hidden treasures—secluded beaches like Anse Marron, reachable only by boat or a daring hike. May they remain untouched, preserved as quiet sanctuaries where nature reigns supreme. DESROCHES, FOUR SEASONS RESORT Beyond the granite islands, our journey extends to the enchanting Amirante group, a remote coral atoll chain southwest of Mahé. Among them, Desroches Island stands out like a rare pearl. After two weeks under sail, we reached Desroches by plane—a transition from the rhythm of the sea to the hum of engines.
