Because none of them can be such a dream as much as Cuixmala in Mexico. This is due to a variety of factors, so let's start at the beginning. To begin with, Cuixmala is located in a vast area. There is a five-kilometer coastline facing the Pacific Ocean. Additionally, it has a magnificent 30,000-acre nature reserve that is home to 12,000 plant species and a wide variety of animals, including zebras. Within the vast grounds, the hotel is naturally divided into various areas: Casa Cuixmala with suites and bungalows, Casas with three private villas (Casa Alborada, Casa La Playa, Casa Torre) and Casitas with a modern version of ten charming traditional Mexican houses with ocean views with different bed capacities. THE TURBULENT LIFE BEHIND HYBRID ARCHITECTURE Cuixmala, a rich blend of Mexican, European and Moroccan architecture, has this hybrid design for a reason. This was actually the home of the illustrious billionaire and politician Sir James Goldsmith, who died in 1997. Cuixmala was established as a hotel a few years after the passing of Goldsmith, whose personal and professional lives were both turbulent and who had roots in both Britain and France. Some members of the Goldsmith clan, nevertheless, are still living in their secluded homes on the property. James Goldsmith was married three times and had a lot of lovers. He left behind eight children. In interviews, one of those kids, Alix Marcaccini, who converted Cuixmala into a hotel, said that "family was very important to my father, even though he had an atypical existence." Another noteworthy detail is that Lady Annabel Goldsmith, Alix's mother, is also the founder of the illustrious London membership club Annabel's. ZEBRAS GIVEN AS GIFTS The majority of presidents, prime ministers, businessmen, and, of course, celebrities came to visit here when Sir James Goldsmith utilized Cuixmala as his private property. Among them are Ronald Reagan, Henry Kissinger, and Richard Nixon. However, there is one person whose name has remained secret, and that is the person who gave Goldsmith a pair of African zebras, and now those zebras are roaming freely in the field. The number of them has also reached 40. AN EARLY AWARENESS Goldsmith's early awareness of the environment is also always appreciated. Ecological works, which began long before caring for the environment was fashionable, has always been an integral part of the Cuixmala experience. From giraffes to antelopes, from jaguars to pumas, wild animals, as well as zebras, are protected within the Cuixmala terrain and roam around the property as freely as possible. Atlas Okyanusu’nun kuzeyine konuşlanmış bu volkanik adanın taşına, toprağına, suyuna ve kendiliğinden gizemine aşık olmuştum, hiç abartmıyorum. Üstelik böyle hisseden yalnızca ben değilim. Hâlâ dünyanın en çok merak edilen destinasyonları arasında İzlanda. Bu favori durumlarını da 2012’de başlattıkları turizm tanıtımına borçlular. Gerçi tanıştığım bir Reykjavik’li genç kadın bu durumdan hiç hoşnut değildi, “Her yer turist doldu, eskiden daha mutluyduk” diyordu ama olsun, topu topu 330 bin kişinin yaşadığı bu adada herkese yer var! Türkiye gibi kalabalık bir ülkeden sonra İzlanda fazlasıyla huzur demek, hem de ultra huzur! Şimdi gelelim İzlanda’nın sırlarına… DEĞİYOR! Uzak bir ülke İzlanda. Direkt uçuş yok, aktarmayla gidiliyor. Ben Kopenhag aktarmalı gitmiş ve Icelandair’in uçaklarına hayran kalmıştım! Beklemediğiniz kadar konforlu uçakları. İnternet bağlantısı var. Sabah brunch için Coocoo’s Nest, deniz ürünleri için Fiskfelagio (The Fish Company diye de geçiyor), öğle yemeği için Ostabudin ve Bergsson Mathus, geleneksel İzlanda yemeği için Apotek’e (barı da iyi) gidin. Reykjavik’te geceye başlamak için Kex en iyisi. Kex, bildiğin hostel. Ama gördüğüm en stil hostellerden biri… Geceyi sonlandırmak için ise canlı müzik mekanı Hurra’ya gidin. Burası cumartesileri 04.30’a kadar açık. En iyi happy hour ise Kaffibarinn’de, onu es geçmeyeyim. ŞELALER DİYARI Reykyavik dışındaki ilk rotanız güney olsun. Rotayı Vik kasabasına doğru kırın. Daha romantik bir şelale. Kahvenizi alıp suyun kenarında yudumlayın. Evet, İzlanda’da şelaleden bol bir şey yok. En meşhuru aslında Gullfoss ya da bilinen İngilizce ismiyle Golden Falls. En gürül gürül çağlayanı. Birkaç şelale daha göreyim derseniz: 122 metrelik Haifoss’u da listenize alın. Sonra Dynjandi’ye gidin. Bir de tabii Selfoss ile Ridley Scott’ın Prometheus filminin açılış sahnesinin çekildiği Dettifoss’a… AH O SİYAH KUMSAL! Vik’e gelmeden Siyah Kumsal’a, nam-ı diğer Reynisfjara’ya da uğrayın. İki büyük kumsaldan oluşuyor burası. Tam instagramlık manzarası var. Kumsala hayran olacağınız kadar tatlı Puffin kuşlarına da bayılacaksınız. Özellikle akşamüstü toplu halde kayalıklarda tünüyorlar. Penguene benzeyen bu kuşları hain İzlandalılar yiyor maalesef! O yüzden menülerde puffin görürseniz direkt es geçin! BUZUL GÖLÜNE ÇIK Buzul gölü Jökulsarlon. Vik’ten sonra iki saat daha yol gidip buraya da uğrayın. İrili ufaklı buzulların etrafında poz verin. Eğer şansınıza güneş varsa ortaya çıkan görüntü inanılmaz oluyor. BİR, İKİ, ÜÇ: HADİ FIŞKIR! Geysir’ı görmeden olmaz. Yeraltı sularının magmaya dokunması ya da magmanın çok yakınından geçmesi sonucu ısınmayla oluşan nefis bir doğa olayı. Gulfoss civarındaki Geysir bölgesinde irili ufaklı fışkıran su kaynakları var. Ama en büyüğünün adı Stokkur. Üç dakika, bilemedin altı dakikada bir yerin altından su fışkırıyor yeryüzüne. Aman suya elinizi değdirmeyin, çünkü en az 80 ila 100 derece! BEN EV KİRALADIM Dikkat! Otelinizi çok önceden rezerve edin, yoksa ortada kalırsınız! İzlanda’da fazla otel yok ve özellikle temmuz ve ağustos aylarında oteller dolup taşıyor. Yoğunluktan dolayı ben ev kiralamak zorunda kaldım. Üstelik ev bir Türk’e aitti! Şaka gibi ama, adada toplam 65 Türk var ve ben gidip bir Türk’ün evini kiralamış oldum, gerçekten hayat enteresan. DUMANI MEŞHUR O YANARDAĞ Geçmiş yıllarda dumanı yüzünden Avrupa hava trafiğini kilitlemiş meşhur ve ismini söylemesi zor yanardağ Eyjafjallajökull’u uzaktan gördüm. Zaten güneye giderken yol üzerinde. Ama hep zirvesi bulutlu… Yanardağın hemen yakınında yer alan turistik bir merkez de var. Yanardağın patlamasından etkilenen bir çiftçi ailenin nasıl hayatta kaldığını anlatan bir belgesel gösteriyorlar orada. Çıkışta da yanardağ külü, taşı ve bunun gibi ıvır zıvırı satıyorlar. Bence gereksiz, hiç takılmayın burada… SICAK NEHİR EN GÜZELİ Blue Lagoon, yani dışarısı buz gibiyken içi 40 derecelik termal yapay göle girmek en popüler İzlanda turist akvitivesi. Ben ölüp bitmedim. Onun yerine daha doğal bir yere, Hveragerdi kasabasının yukarısındaki dağdan akan sıcak nehre girin daha iyi. Oraya daha çok yerliler gidiyor. Yanınıza da içki de alın tabii! ATLA TURLAMAK İSTİYORSAN… Atlar! İzlanda’ya özgü atları görmeden, fotoğraflamadan ya da onlarla bir tura çıkmadan olmaz. Zaten adım başı bu atlara rastlamak mümkün! Eğer bu atlarla tur da yapayım, doğanın içinde fink atayım diyorsanız iki güzel at çiftliğinin adresini vereyim: Biri Eldhestar, diğeri Viking Horses. ÇİM EVLER MASAL GİBİ İzlanda'nın dağlık bölgelerinde yer alan Jökuldalsheiði’deki çim ev Sænautasel masal gibi bir çim ev. 1843’te inşa edilmiş ve tam 95 yıl insanlar bu çim evde yaşamış. MAĞARA SEVİYORSAN… İzlanda’da farklı boyutlarda çok fazla mağara var. Mağaralar ülkenin tarihinde önemli. Çünkü birçoğu sert kışlarda insanlar veya hayvanlar için barınak görevi görmüş. Dahası bazı kaplıcalar bile mağaraların içinde yer alıyor. Mesela Game of Thrones’un aşk sahnesiyle ünlü Grjótagjá. Ancak maalesef içinde yıkanmak mümkün değil! İzlanda'daki en ünlü mağaralar aslında buzul buz mağaraları. Ama doğal bir mavi buzul mağarasını sadece kış aylarında, yani ekim ortasından marta kadar görmek mümkün. Unutmadan: En ünlü buzul mağara Crystal, Vatnajökull buzulunda. 2011'den beri her yıl ortaya çıkıyor. Ama içine girmek tehlikeli olduğu için bu mağaraya rehberle girilebiliyor. Ayrıca mağaraya girmeden önce size krampon, farlı bir kask ve buz baltası veriliyor! UNUTMADAN…. 1. Üç ünlü ulusal parkı var İzlanda’nın. Benim favorilerim Thingvellir ve Vatnajökull. Bir de Snæfellsjökull var. Ama ilk ikisine gitseniz yeterli olacaktır. Özellikle de Thingvellir harika! 2. 1973'te Amerikan Donanması’na ait bir uçak İzlanda'nın güneyinde yer alan Sólheimasandur'daki siyah sahile düşmüş. Kalıntılar hâlâ denize çok yakın olan kumun üzerinde duruyor ve tabii ki instagrammer’lar için nefis bir malzeme sunuyor! Sólheimasandur uçak enkazına erişmek için belli bir noktaya kadar araçla gidebilirsiniz. Daha sonra aracınızı parkedip yaklaşık bir saat yürümeniz gerek. The moon-shaped lamp by designer Davide Groppi hangs above a sprawling sofa, and a mighty staircase invite us to explore. This 18th-century building in the heart of the Santa Clara quarter in Lisbon hides an impressive guest house, where historic legacy and architectural elegance intertwine. The owner is João Rodrigues, a pilot by trade and hospitality devotee by heart, who decided to transform family-owned houses into places where guests can disconnect and be one with nature – and themselves. Within this gracefully understated space, João tells the story of how Silent Living came to be – organically, with time, and without an explicit plan. Now, Silent Living stands as a growing collection of five houses, two restaurants, and one estate, all between Lisbon and Alentejo. The first house was Casas na Areia, which began as a weekend house, a place to escape to and be together as a family. In addition to an aesthetically uncluttered vision brought to life by long-time friend and architect Manuel Aires Mateus – who worked on all the properties – this house stands out for a remarkable feature: a floor covered in sand with a heated concrete pavement beneath, an ode to its idyllic location in the dunes of Comporta, in coastal Alentejo. Kum vadisi anlamına gelen Wadi Rum, Ürdün’ün güneyinde, Akabe’ye 40 kilometre uzaklıkta bir doğa harikası. Wadi Rum’un şöhretinin nedeni Mars yüzeyini andıran kızıl kumları, kayalıkları elbette. Buranın Marslı filminde neden set olarak kullanıldığını oraya gidince daha iyi anlıyorsunuz. Gerçekten de vadinin iç taraflarına doğru ilerledikçe Mars yüzeyinde geziniyormuş gibi hissediyor insan. Çok acayip bir duygu! Artık ya filmin yoğun etkisi ya da Mars’a karşı son dönemde gelişen popüler ilginin engellenemez hali. O kızıl kumların üzerinde gezinirken başka türlü bir havaya giriyorsun. Benim kaldığım Aicha’da: - Sabah saat 05.30 sularında kalkıp gün doğumunu izlemeye götürdü kampın çalışanı bedeviler. Arabalarla bir bir kızıl tepeye gittik. Sabah sabah bir tepeye tırmandık. Ama gün doğmaya başlayınca manzara olağanüstüydü! - Sabah ve gece çok serin olduğu için dev bir kürk kaban veriyorlar. Onunla dolaşmak bile fantastikti! - Gelelim eğlenceye! Çölün ortasında bedevilerin müziği eşliğinde çılgınca dansedeceğimi söyleseler inanmazdım, ama oldu! Hayatımda en çok eğlendiğim gecelerden biriydi. Bir süre sonra çöl soğuğuna aldırmadık, bedevilerin çaldığı canlı müzik eşliğinde deliler gibi dansedip göbek attık! Unutmadan: - Wadi Rum’a gitmek için Amman ya da Akabe’ye uçabilirsiniz. In 2000, Claude was drawn to Bali by the island’s powerful spiritual energy and settled there. He began modestly, opening a small spa in Ubud, but his vision expanded quickly. By 2003, together with his partner Iyan, he co-founded Oneworld Retreats. A decade later, his vision evolved once again, leading to the creation of Oneworld Ayurveda — Bali’s first authentic Panchakarma center, blending ancient Indian wisdom with Balinese serenity. WHAT IS PANCHAKARMA? My body had to adapt not only to a new living space but also to the humidity and the long, sudden rains in the middle of Bali’s lush forests. That first afternoon, during my consultation with Ayurveda gynecologist Dr. Resmi V. Rajagobal (BAMS), my body type, diet, and Ayurvedic supplements were determined. I turned out to be 50% Vata, 27% Kapha, and 23% Pitta. Flipping through the beautifully prepared booklet we were given, I stopped at the pages describing Vata traits and imbalances. Every word mirrored the silent struggles I had carried in daily life — insomnia, waking in the night and being unable to fall back asleep, and much more. For the first time, I could see the invisible link between my inner restlessness and my outer experiences. That’s how my journey began. CLEAR OUTLINES OF THE DAYS Each morning began at 6:00 a.m. with the gentle sounds of meditation bowls. At 6:30, a gong resonated throughout the property, reminding everyone that yoga was about to start. The rest of the day unfolded with nourishing vegetarian meals, toxin-releasing massage therapies, and treatments that left me feeling deeply renewed. Add to that attentive doctor consultations and another round of wholesome, flavorful dining, and every day flowed in a fulfilling rhythm of wellness — from sunrise to sunset. Meals could be ordered to the room, enjoyed on the terrace, or shared with other guests in communal spaces. On some evenings, I chose to have dinner alone in my room, surrounded by the Bali jungle. For me, the realization was simple yet profound: healing doesn’t always come from adding more to your life. Sometimes, it begins with stopping, letting go, and allowing yourself to rest. By the end of my seven-day journey, I felt profoundly lighter — not just in body, but in spirit. I returned home not only with glowing skin and a calmer mind, but with a renewed awareness of how balance can be lived. And with the conviction that everyone should experience this at least once — to rebalance themselves and to recognize how modern life has thrown our doshas off course.
