- Marsha Lipton: Numeraire and Digital Object Fingerprinting
Marsha Lipton explains how Numeraire uses Digital Product Passports and AI-driven Object Fingerprinting to protect trust in art and design. November 5, 2025 | DESIGN & INTERIORS MARSHA LIPTON words Pınar Yılmaz A visionary mind at the intersection of art, finance, and technology, Dr. Marsha Lipton has dedicated her career to protecting the identity of physical objects in the digital realm. With experience at J.P. Morgan, an academic foundation in chemistry, and a collector’s eye, she’s redefining one of the art world’s most essential concepts: trust. Your journey spans finance, technology, and art. What led you to found Numeraire Future Trends? Numeraire Future Trends grew out of a lifelong fascination with science, technology, finance, and art — a convergence that felt almost inevitable. I began my career as a trader, first in London’s financial district and later on Wall Street, after earning a PhD in Physical Chemistry and an MBA from the University of Chicago. Those years taught me how to live with risk, make decisions with imperfect information, and filter meaningful signals from noise — a data-driven discipline that still anchors my work today. Over time, I became intrigued by the transparency and traceability offered by blockchain technology. It promised a kind of digital integrity long missing from the world of physical assets. Yet I soon realized that NFTs, in their current form, fell short of that promise. They were often misunderstood and misrepresented — pointing to images stored elsewhere rather than securing or verifying the artworks themselves. The token might persist, but the image it referenced remained vulnerable. That realization sparked a deeper ambition: to integrate technology into the art world responsibly, with the object itself at the centre. Alongside Dr. Thomas Hardjono from MIT, we developed a system where trust resides not in paper documentation but within the object itself. When I began collecting, I noticed how fragile the foundations of authenticity and provenance could be. Documents, galleries, even artists disappear — and records fade. That’s where Numeraire was born: from the idea that trust should be embedded not in certificates, but in the very essence of the object. Why are your Digital Product Passports and AI-based “Object Fingerprint” technology so vital for collectors? Forgery today is far more sophisticated than ever before. AI-powered printing techniques can produce copies capable of deceiving even the most experienced experts. This threatens the very foundation of trust upon which the art world is built. At Numeraire, we address this through Digital Product Passports reinforced by AI-driven Object Fingerprinting. Instead of paper certificates, we record the object’s unique physical characteristics — surface texture, pigment distribution, or the microscopic pattern of a metal or gemstone. These details generate a permanent digital identity stored securely on the blockchain. Artists, galleries, and documentation may come and go, but the object’s own trace remains. In that sense, the values we safeguard today can endure confidently in tomorrow’s world. Can this technology also be applied beyond art — for example, to jewellery and watches? Absolutely. The idea behind Numeraire is simple yet powerful: every object is unique. The texture of a painting, the surface of a metal, the veins of a stone — none can ever be replicated exactly. That makes a tremendous difference in the world of limited-edition jewellery and watches. A Rolex or Cartier bracelet no longer needs a paper certificate to prove authenticity; the material itself becomes the evidence. Each piece carries its own digital identity, enabling verification and transparency across the entire value chain — for brands, collectors, and consumers alike. Where do you see digital identity systems heading over the next decade? What begins today within the worlds of culture and art will soon expand to fields as diverse as medicine, defence, sustainable manufacturing, and luxury goods. In the near term, our aim is clear: to establish a new standard of trust across art, design, and the luxury industries. Our vision is both simple and ambitious — to create a verification technology that stays one step ahead of imitation, protecting authenticity in an increasingly digital world.
- Aman Tokyo-Inspired House near Vancouver by Sha Wang
Sha Wang of Space 9 designs a house near Vancouver inspired by Aman Tokyo, using white oak, black slate and concrete panels for calm, minimal interiors. January 2024 | Design & Interiors english below Canadian house inspired by Aman Tokyo words Alp Tekin photos Tina Kulic (Associate photographer at Ema Peter Photography) V ancouver şehir merkezinden 25 dakika uzaklıktaki bu ev projesi Aman Tokyo otelinden ilham alarak tasarlanmış. T his house project, 25 minutes away from Vancouver city center, was designed with inspiration from the Aman Tokyo hotel. Sha Wang from Space 9, who carried out the design, describes the project as follows: “The Aman Tokyo, which happens to be my favorite hotel, served as a major inspiration for this project. It was a truly enjoyable experience to bring a world-class hospitality feel into a single residential project. The client's taste and design brief were an exact match for my own design style and lifestyle and as I delved into the design process, I felt a genuine excitement knowing that the interior space we were creating would embody my own signature style”. The platform that brought Wang and the homeowners together was Instagram: “The homeowners discovered me through Instagram, and after a brief 30-minute conversation, we swiftly proceeded to sign the design proposal, solidifying our collaboration. Life is frequently marked by serendipitous occurrences, as if everything has been intricately orchestrated beforehand”. Unnecessary decorations and distracting elements were avoided in the design of the house, which prioritizes purity, strength and simplicity with a craftsmanship and minimalist approach. White oak, black slate and concrete panel were used extensively as materials. “The light and warm palette, combined with textured concrete panels that complement each other, create a sense of warmth (conveyed by the white oak) and a very interesting visual geometry throughout the home”, says Sha Wang. One of the most significant challenges in this project was striking the perfect balance while infusing a world-class Japanese hospitality feel into a residential environment. “Although we wanted to capture the essence of tranquility and serenity from the Aman hotel, it was equally important to meet all functional requirements and budget constraints because this space would serve as the owners’ full-time home,” says Sha Wang. “Additionally, we aimed to develop the design further to give the space its own unique character. Blending these elements required a careful and thoughtful approach, which truly reflected the homeowners' vision and lifestyle”.
- Ksenia Mezentseva: Coastal Home in Abu Dhabi
Ksenia Mezentseva designs an Abu Dhabi coastal home with sea-inspired blue, green, wood and marble, connecting its interiors to Saadiyat Island. September 2024 | DESIGN & INTERIORS TURKISH BELOW DESIGNING a COASTAL OASIS words Karine Monie photos Sergey Krasyuk Located in the heart of Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi, home to the UAE Louvre and the upcoming Guggenheim, this home is inspired by the serene colors of the sea, white sand and elegant palm trees. "We wanted to integrate the exterior with the interior, so we chose white, blue and natural wood colors for the project," says interior designer Ksenia Mezentseva (KM Interior Design). Ksenia loves the effect and use of color in interiors, and she offers some advice. "I filmed a big masterclass on this a few years ago (it's on YouTube)," she says. "Different colors have different effects on people. There is a whole theory that teaches you what colors to use in different climates and different rooms based on the effect." BLUE FOR CALM AND FRESHNESS “Blue is one of my favorite colors," says Ksenia. It's cold, calming, relaxing - it's a very complex color. In hot climates, blue brings coolness and freshness to an interior, that's why we like to use it in our projects in southern destinations like the UAE. Blue also brings the color of the sea into the house, thus merging the interior and exterior”. GREEN FOR LIVELINESS “Green was used to add a source of visual greenery to the project,” says Ksenia. “Green symbolizes new life and growth, evoking the essence of trees, grass and flowers,” says Ksenia, "While these natural elements are not abundant in the UAE, incorporating green into the interior design brings a refreshing touch and recreates a natural palette of sea, greenery and sand”. WOOD "Originally, our clients come from cold climates where the use of wood to visually 'warm up' homes is very common. Abu Dhabi is of course a very hot place in itself, so it does not need visual stimulation and warming. On the contrary, cold stone is usually used a lot in the interiors to cool down the houses. But in this project, we used wood floors and wood joinery to give the place a little bit of home-away-from-home feeling”. MARBLE ”Marble is an expensive material. It represents wealth and prosperity. It also represents nature because it has a vivid natural pattern. We often see marble, especially light colored marble, in warm climate projects, and we see dark and 'warm colored' stones in cold climates. We chose this light marble to beautifully enhance the visual appeal of the apartment and introduce the refreshing coolness of the stone, perfectly balancing the warmth of the wood elements”. www.kseniamezentseva.com Bir KIYI VAHASI tasarlamak BAE Louvre ve yakında açılacak olan Guggenheim gibi yapıların bulunduğu Abu Dabi'deki Saadiyat Adası'nın kalbinde yer alan bu ev; denizin dingin renklerinden, beyaz kumlardan ve zarif palmiye ağaçlarından ilham alıyor.

- Alcova Miami: Contemporary Design at River Inn
Alcova Miami returns to River Inn in East Little Havana during Miami Art Week, bringing its contemporary design platform to a historic Miami hotel. September 2024 | Art & Culture TURKISH BELOW FOR the 2nd time ALCOVA in MIAMI words Onur Baştürk H eld every year during Milan Design Week, Alcova is one of the leading platforms for forward-looking contemporary design. When I went to the last edition of Alcova, the long lines I saw in front of the two buildings where the event takes place are the best proof that the platform is growing. And so Alcova, founded by Valentina Ciuffi (Studio Vedèt) and Joseph Grima (Space Caviar), returns to Miami for its second international edition, which will take place during Miami Art Week, December 3-8. Building on the success of its inaugural Miami edition, this year's Alcova Miami will take place at the city's oldest hotel, the River Inn on South River Drive Historic District in East Little Havana. Originally built in 1908 as a Victorian boarding house, the River Inn consists of pastel-colored wooden mansions with a carefully preserved historic side. Now located in the heart of one of Miami's most vibrant neighborhoods, the property combines its historic charm with a location that is easily accessible from both Miami Beach and downtown Miami. “We are thrilled to bring Alcova back to Miami,” said Alcova founders Valentina Ciuffi and Joseph Grima. “River Inn, with its unique history and vibrant community atmosphere, encapsulates the spirit of Alcova's mission to create dynamic platforms which celebrate the architectural legacy of the cities we work in. Miami’s unique urban fabric and architectural heritage continue to inspire us – and the designers who make up the Alcova community”.
- Mert Sari: Interview on Yeşilyurt and the Northern Aegean
Mert Sari discusses Yeşilyurt Village, the Ida Mountains and Assos Caz Maz, sharing his view of the Northern Aegean’s culture, nature and future. September 2024 | Vol 13 TURKISH BELOW MERT SARI ‘When the lightning began to flash around the Altar of Zeus…' Your roots are older in the Northern Aegean because of your family. Where do you think this region has evolved to? Yes, although I am relatively young as a local of the area, the fact that my parents brought me here as a child led to an interesting 30 years of experience. In my first memories, there were few investments in Yeşilyurt Village, few hotels and few places to go and stay in the rest of the region. Just as these have increased today and similar and dissimilar projects and dreams came true from Babakale to Ayvalık, they will continue to diversify and increase in the same way. My hope is that while these are happening, the traditional values of the region will be preserved. With the increase of the villagers, who are the real owners of the region, the thousands of years of harmony and peacefulness of the İda Mountains can continue for a long time... What do you like best about the area? Its rain, its lightning! Many mythological stories have been told over the years on these lands, which have a very strong energy in general. Writers, artists, thinkers and gods have always lived, traveled and observed here, especially in Greek mythology. When the lightning began to flash around the Altar of Zeus above the village of Adatepe, when all the valleys of the İda Mountains were illuminated by these lightnings, and to experience the nourishing relationship of a heavy rain with nature, especially if there is a fireplace burning in the house, they have always been my favorite moments of the region! What are your favorite places? The Ida Mountains themselves! Forests, waterfalls, creeks... Everywhere you see when you enter any forest, without looking for a hiking trail. Anywhere you can go. My only advice is any route in the middle of nature. And, Yeşilyurt Village Coffee is a must! Here, everyone here loves their village the most. What do you think about your village Yeşilyurt? Each village experiences Ida Mountains differently, with its ancient habits, villagers, investors, that is, their 'outsiders' as the villagers say. Each village has its own beauties and caracteristics. Likewise, the difficulties... And at the end of the day, if we take into account the universal law of "keep your shop and your shop will keep you", Yeşilyurt Village is the best cared, worked and forged village of this region for many years in every sense. Therefore, Yeşilyurt is one of the most breathtaking villages in this region. HE CONTRIBUTED THE FESTIVALS TO COME TO THESE PLACES You created the “Assos Caz Maz” project. How do such projects contribute to the region? Caz Maz has been instrumental in bringing jazz music, festival and concert music, which didn't exist much in the region before, to these places. It humbly played a role in determining what would fit here, why, and how. It inspired investors, property owners, influential people to do similar things. When it is designed correctly and done accordingly, it has been and continues to be a work that shows that it can lead to completely different beautiful things for the whole region. Tek tavsiyem, doğanın tam ortasındaki her türlü güzergâh. Ve ama, olmazsa olmaz Yeşilyurt Köy Kahvesi! Buradaki herkes kendi köyünü daha çok seviyor. Peki sen köyün Yeşilyurt hakkında ne düşünüyorsun? Her köy; geçmişten gelen yaşam alışkanlıkları, köylüleri, yatırımcıları, yani köylünün diliyle 'dışardan gelenleriyle' farklı yaşar Kaz Dağları'nı. Doğru kurgulandığı ve gereği ona göre yapıldığı zaman bölgenin tamamı için bambaşka güzel şeylere vesile olabildiğini gösteren bir iş oldu, olmaya da devam ediyor. for more Print VOL XIII - AEGEAN & MEDITERRANEAN EDITION 2024 Out of Stock Add to Cart
- Time is a Child Exhibition by Galerist and Perasma
Galerist and Perasma present Time is a Child in Leros, a 22-artist exhibition inspired by Heraclitus and Theodore Angelopoulos's Eternity and a Day. Serginin ilhamı ise Teodoros Angelopulos yönetmenliğindeki “Eternity and a Day” filmi ve Heraklitos’un “Zaman, sahilde beş taş oy nayan bir çocuktur” cümlesiydi. Ada sakinlerinin günün her saatinde rutin yüzme program için kullandığı Koulouki koyunda yer alan yelken okulu, sabah saatlerinde adanın ihtiyar heyetinin, ilerleyen saatlerde ise işinden öğle tatili için çıkan gençlerin uğrak yeri oluyor. Ada yaşamında usulca kendine yer edinen “Time is a Child” sergisi, ziyaret edenlerin meraklı bakışları ve ders almaya gelen çocukların keyifli sorularıyla sanki hep oradaymış gibi bir hisle devam etti. Her bir sanatçının zamanla olan iletişimini bambaşka kanallardan aktardığı sergide; kimisi çocukluğundaki zamanın akışına kimisi zamanın döngüselliğine, kimisi de zamanın enerjisine değindiği eserlerle birbirine eşlik etti. Türkiye, Yunanistan, İngiltere, Fransa ve Güney Afrika’dan sanatçıların bir araya geldiği bu sergide, 22 sanatçının her birinin zamanı kendi zihinlerinde ve duygu durumlarında nasıl yorumladıklarını deneyimleme fırsatı bulduk. A Leros exhibition in the footsteps of Heraclitus O ur group exhibition, "Time is a Child," which we held as Galerist and Perasma, arose from our interest in the blended structure of Leros' past and the lifestyle that exists on the island today. The erratic flow of time, like a child, compelled us to think in synchronization with the rhythm of Leros. The works proposed by the artists we invited for the exhibition evolved concurrently with our exploration of the island and our dialogues with the artists. ETERNITY AND A DAY We had the impression that time moved differently on Leros: Was this because we organized the exhibition here, or because time moves in its own way here? That is impossible to know. The exhibition was inspired by the Theodore Angelopoulos film "Eternity and a Day" and Heraclitus's aphorism, "Time is a child playing five stones on the beach." The sailing school in Koulouki Bay, which is used by the island's residents for routine swimming programs at all hours of the day, is frequented in the morning by the island's elders and in the following hours by young people who leave their jobs for lunch. The "Time is a Child" exhibition, which had gradually gained a place in island life, continued with the curious gazes of visitors and the pleasant questions of the children who came to take lessons, as if it had always been there. Each artist conveyed their communication with time through completely different topics in the exhibition; some touched on the flow of time in their childhood, others on the circularity of time, and still others on the energy of time. In this exhibition, which brought together artists from Turkiye, Greece, England, France, and South Africa, we were able to see how each of the 22 artists interpreted time in their own minds and moods.
- Sailing Boat: Seven-Day Amalfi Coast Sailing Route
Sailing Boat presents a seven-day Dolce Vita route from Salerno through Amalfi, Ravello, Ischia, Procida and Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast. June 2024 | Vol 12 FOR TURKISH A SEVEN-DAY DOLCE VITA by SAILING BOAT words & photos Kristina Avdeeva IG:@seasouldiary SALERNO Our ‘dolce vita’ along the Costiera Amalfitana began with a stunning view of Salerno, visible through the windows of the Dimora Copeta. With high ceilings decorated with original frescoes, Dimora Copeta, one of the apartments managed by Starhost, features cozy rooms, a kitchen with a terrace, antiques, and a terracotta floor restored by Fornace de Martino. Dimora Copeta's biggest advantage is its location in Old Town. Salerno Cathedral and the magnificent ancient building that housed the Scuola Medica Salernitana, the first and most important medical institution of the Middle Ages, are a short walk away. So, it would be impossible not to go to Hostaria il Brigante for lunch, Landi Pasticceria for dessert and amazing pizzas, and Pizzeria Criscemunno for dinner on its incredible terrace. And finally, we set off from here to Marina di Areci for our seven-day sailing trip. AMALFI + ATRANI + RAVELLO Atrani and Amalfi are 10 miles from Salerno. You can anchor your sail across the Collegiate Santa Maria Maddalena and Spaggia di Atrani. Another alternative is to go beyond the promontory and immerse yourself in the hustle and bustle of Amalfi, popular with tourists. No big marina is located here, only small piers. It is less than an hour's walk from here to Atrani. After exploring both small towns, you have two scenarios to continue the day. The easy one is to go back, eat lemon ice cream and get lost in the picturesque maze of streets. The more interesting and difficult one - if the hike doesn't scare you - is to challenge yourself and climb up the Dragon River valley to Ravello! The reward for this accomplishment is the view from above. Described as the "city of music", Ravello has plenty of lovely villas, including Villa Ruffolo. And, of course, the Oscar Niemeyer Auditorium, built by the famous Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer in the shape of an eye looking out over the lush rocky hills with the shimmering sea and sky as a backdrop. The famous architect designed the building for his close friend Domenico De Masi, the president of the Ravello music festival. The auditorium possesses an emotional and powerful poetic energy that recalls some of the sketches by Le Corbusier, with whom Niemeyer worked in the 30s. One of the things you must experience when you go to Amalfi is watching the bells of the Duomo di Amalfi tower against the backdrop of the sunset. And if you book Taverna Buonvicino in advance, you have the chance to hear a private piano solo from the owner. ISCHIA After soaking up the bustle of the city, we head to the majestic Castle of Aragon near the island of Ischia. It is one of the longest passes on the route. From here, you can immediately get an idea of the extent of the Bay of Naples. Ischia offers hot springs, fertile soils, and luxurious beaches. Golden Age Hollywood was once attracted to this place. In more run-down corners, "The Talented Mr. Ripley" was filmed. Nowadays, Neapolitans visit here for a weekend of fun on the beach and tourists to seek youth and health in the hot springs. As we were well enough hydrated on the sailboat, we went to the Giardini la Mortella Botanical Garden, located in the northwest of the island and created by the composer Sir William Walton and his wife. This masterpiece garden was lovingly created over the course of more than 30 years from pathways, vines, hydrangeas, and other magnificent rare plants. The abandoned villa of Italian director Luchino Visconti is also hidden in the garden. CASTELLO ARAGONESE After a deep sleep in the cozy marina of Calo Degli Aragonesi, we had coffee with fresh croissants and set off for Castello Aragonese. The castle was in existence before the Romans arrived. Just click on Wikipedia to learn about the turbulent history of events here. We are interested in modern history! To anchor in the lagoon overlooking the ramparts, you need to buy a ticket from Regno di Neptuno. It is best to wander the labyrinths of the castle before lunch or at sunset. The numerous terraces in the castle offer breathtaking views of the island, neighboring Procida and Cape Miseno. For most people, the main attraction is the bar at the top of the castle. Yes, it's nice to spend time here looking at the sea. PROCIDA Ischia's closest neighbor, Procida, is the flagship of the Phlegrean Islands and looks like a real cinematic set design. We stopped in Porto della Corricella, the oldest coastal village on the sail. The small houses here lean against each other in a palette of pastel colors. They are often topped with balconies and arches of Arab origin. It is best known for hosting the movie "Il Postino" starring Massimo Troisi and Maria Grazia Cucinotta. Unlike nearby Ischia and Capri, Procida is not an island full of luxury hotels, gourmet restaurants, and exclusive clubs. Far from it, in fact. It feels like time has stopped here. No sound, no car headlights, nothing superfluous. Fishermen pass by us to catch fish at night, following the call of their hearts and the laws of nature. The seagulls sing their famous timeless song. SORRENTO After swimming in the crystal clear waters of Procida Island, we headed towards the stunning city of Sorrento. We decided to spend the night in Marina Grande, not in the anchorage across the city, which resembled a cake. Once a fishing harbor, now impressively sized superyachts and sailboats spend the night at the pier. The unchanged old pastel-colored houses and the sleepy morning air give it a nostalgic charm. I would like to believe that Sorrento is not so different from the time when Sophia Loren and Vittorio de Sica filmed "Scandal in Sorrento (Pane, amore e...)" here in 1955. Sorrento is on a hill. That's why it's necessary to spend some time climbing, to admire the views of Mount Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples. Our actual plan here is to explore the gastronomic life and go to Pompeii the next day. First stop was Michelin-starred Il Buco. In the cellars of an old monastery, under a vaulted ceiling, it promises fine cuisine made from local produce and wines from the Campania region. The second stop was Ristorante Museo Caruso, which we discovered by chance as we took a wrong turn while escaping the bustle of the city, attracted by old gramophones and an abundance of photographs. POSITANO The busiest bay on the Amalfi Coast. Boats pass by on all sides. One of the most hectic places on the coast, but at the same time, very charming. The city's appearance raises the level of aesthetic pleasure. A sea taxi takes us to the shore, and we don't have to make any effort to launch our motorboat. Positano was once a fishing village, now the epicenter of glamor. The houses are densely packed on top of each other. Pastel colors - primrose, pink, terracotta, peach, and white - give the city a theatrical charm. The city's central landmark is the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, located in the center of Piazza Flavio Gioia, with its beautiful majolica-covered dome. Near the throne, you can see a Byzantine altar from the 12th century depicting the Black Madonna and child. At dawn, before the streets are filled with tourists, we decide to enjoy the city. On the terrace of the Don Giovanni restaurant, with a glass of white Per Eva Costa d'Amalfi, we took our seats to wait for the real show, the pink sunset. If you want to spend a night in this magical place, choose Le Sirenuse Hotel. Elegant, full of the spirit of Italy, this hotel belongs to the Sersale family. They also enjoy getting lost among the crowd of guests and having dinners in the intimate gardens of this wonderful place, overlooking the dome of the Church of Santa Maria Assunta. In a nutshell, the Amalfi coast starts with seductive landscapes in the morning and ends with noisy fireworks in the evening. Only in Italy can you find such a high concentration of beauty, ancient artifacts, incredibly delicious food, and local wine. for more Print VOL XII - 2024 Out of Stock Add to Cart
- SaDe: Emerging Artists Exhibition in Karaköy
SaDe presents six emerging artists at Saint Benoît High School in Karaköy, with works shaped by mentorship, memory and earthquake recovery. December 11, 2025 | Art & Culture TR BELOW NEW VOICES, EMERGING NARRATIVES words YUZU Editorial photos Fatih Yılmaz Spaces sometimes register a city’s pulse in their quietest moments. In Karakoy, the gallery of Saint Benoît High School does exactly that, hosting the 2024–2025 exhibition of SaDe — the Artist Support Fund by IKSV and Mercedes-Benz Turk. The space gathers new works by young artists, each balancing fragility and resilience. SaDe offers both financial and mentorship support to emerging practitioners. This year, the programme takes on added weight by focusing on artists affected by the Kahramanmaras earthquakes, expanding its purpose with a sense of urgency. The six participating artists — Rozelin Akgün, Cemil Çalkıcı, Aylin Çankaya, Gökçe Çetin, Nesime Karateke and Macide Yalçınkaya — present work shaped by recent months: pieces marked by geography, memory and the freedoms of contemporary expression. In some, material speaks loudly; in others, silence does the work. Together, they carve out subtle spaces that gesture toward art’s capacity to steady and to heal. At the opening, IKSV General Director Görgün Taner emphasised SaDe’s role as a broader ecosystem that connects young artists with networks and visibility. Mercedes-Benz Turk Executive Board President Süer Sülün highlighted the programme’s significance in a post-earthquake context, where supporting artistic production becomes even more vital. Guided by mentors Serkan Taycan, Emre Hüner, Aslıhan Demirtaş, Nazlı Pektaş, Evrim Kavcar and Günseli Baki, the artists shaped ideas into works grounded in material and context. Open until 21 December, the exhibition is not only a showcase of emerging voices but a reminder of how essential it is to sustain artistic production in Turkey.
- Studio RODA: Tom Joyner's Sunny Isles Home
Studio RODA designed Tom Joyner’s 5,000-square-foot Sunny Isles condo in Porsche Design Tower, a colorful Florida home with a custom club room. August 7, 2025 | DESIGN & INTERIORS SHOOTING FOR the MOON in SUNNY ISLES words Karine Monie photos Douglas Friedman interior design Studio RODA A riot of color, music, and personality in a bold Florida beachside home designed by Studio RODA. When retired radio legend and philanthropist Tom Joyner set his sights on a new chapter in Sunny Isles, Florida, he wasn’t looking for a quiet retreat—he wanted a statement. His first words to interior architect Rodrigo Albir of Studio RODA set the tone: “This place feels like beige came here to die. I want life, I want color. Shoot for the moon—and I’ll let you know if you’ve gone too far.” It was a brief like no other, delivered in true Tom Joyner style—clad in a bold Versace kimono, tinted sunglasses (indoors, of course), and a Swarovski crystal-studded cane, all while Carlos Santana played in the background. “He greeted me like a rockstar,” recalls Albir, “and I knew instantly that we were about to embark on something fearless.” Set within the sleek Porsche Design Tower, this 5,000-square-foot oceanfront condo is now a maximalist dreamscape—vivid, unapologetic, and layered with personal history. A former musician and the iconic voice behind The Tom Joyner Morning Show, Joyner wanted his home to reflect the vibrancy of his life, his style, and his enduring love of music. A VISION IN FULL COLOR From the start, Joyner insisted: “I don’t need practicality. I need a WOW factor.” The result is a home alive with saturated color, sculptural form, and bold materiality. Inspired by his wardrobe, musical legacy, and flair for drama, Studio RODA crafted a space that’s both playful and elevated. The living and dining areas feature 1970s DS-1025 Terrazza sofas in suede by Ubald Klug for de Sede, paired with a striking 10-foot lime green resin dining table from Francesco Balzano’s Antica Collection. Overhead, a bespoke glass chandelier by Milan-based 6:AM anchors the space in glowing spectacle. Walls and ceilings are dressed in high-gloss Venetian plaster in rich hues—creating the perfect backdrop for works by Picasso, Anish Kapoor, and a custom commission by Ernie Barnes. THE JOYNER CLUB: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED As if the palette weren’t bold enough, Joyner added one last request: “I want a club in my apartment. A room for dancing, entertaining, and celebrating life.” Studio RODA delivered a fully custom club room wrapped in velvet, complete with sculptural lighting, disco-inspired furnishings, and a wall sconce in the shape of the moon—symbolizing their “successful moon landing” in design. Every detail, from the mirrored surfaces to the banquettes and bar, was custom-built in collaboration with D-Coded International. DESINGNING AT FULL VOLUME Elsewhere, the home continues to riff on Joyner’s 1970s roots. The Blowing Armchair by Seungjin Yang (crafted from resin and balloons) brings a burst of whimsy. Ricardo Fasanello’s Esfera chair, reissued by Espasso, adds sculptural calm. Sebastian Herkner’s glass side tables, lacquered millwork, and pure silk rugs reinforce a tactile, gallery-like experience—always bold, never beige. The kitchen pairs Studio RODA’s custom cabinetry with BassamFellows stools and accessories from Zanat. In the breakfast nook, Kazuhide Takahama’s Gaja chairs surround a Luca Stefano table from Studiotwentyseven, lit by Peter Zumthor's Candela di Vals pendants for Viabizzuno. LIVING LOUD, LIVING JOYNER As a final touch, the Studio RODA team surprised Joyner with a set of Jacques Marie Mage sunglasses, each pair color-matched to a room in the house—honey yellow, emerald green, and of course, deep red. This is not just a home—it’s a personal anthem. Every room is a verse, every object a chorus, and the whole space? A living encore.
- BASE 2025: Young Artists Exhibition in Istanbul
BASE 2025 brings together 151 recent art graduates at The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Istanbul, with six parallel exhibitions curated by Derya Yücel. November 17, 2025 | Art & Culture TR BELOW MAPPING YOUNG ART: BASE 2025 Bringing together recent art graduates from across Turkiye, BASE returns for its ninth edition at The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Istanbul B Block. As BASE’s media partner, YUZU joins an edition taking place from 26–30 November 2025 under the main sponsorship of Trendyol Sanat, showcasing works by 151 young artists from 43 universities across a range of disciplines. Founded with the mission of supporting young artists’ creativity, strengthening their motivation to produce, and fostering dialogue between graduates, art professionals and audiences, BASE continues to build its platform with the guidance of a distinguished selection committee. The 2025 jury includes Ani Çelik Arevyan, Canan Dağdelen, Canan Tolon, Derya Yücel, Ebru Yetişkin, Eda Kehale Argün, Ferda Dedeoğlu, Gürbüz Doğan Ekşioğlu, Guido Casaretto, İnci Furni, İrfan Önürmen, İsmet Doğan, M. Wenda Koyuncu, Necmi Sönmez, Pınar Öğrenci and Selim Bilen. BOUNDARIES / POSSIBILITIES Curator Derya Yücel frames this year's edition under the theme ‘Boundaries/Possibilities’: “Throughout history, art has been one of the most powerful ways of thinking about, questioning and transcending boundaries. These boundaries are not only geographical or political; they exist within cultural, social and personal experiences as well. The lines between human and non-human, individual and society, nature and city, body and consciousness, truth and imagination, self and other—are at once defining and porous, sometimes sharp, sometimes fluid, sometimes indeterminate. Young artists’ practices emerge precisely in these spaces where boundaries are questioned, stretched and transformed. As they make visible the tensions between norm and deviation, self and other, the real and the imagined, they open the door to new ways of relating, new meanings, new possibilities of being. BASE’s ninth edition positions their work at this intersection”. BASESELECTED 2025 Free and open to the public each day, BASE will also host six parallel exhibitions alongside the main graduate showcase. BASELECTED 2025 presents recent works by 65 artists who have participated in different editions of BASE since 2017. In collaboration with Trendyol Sanat, “Guest Country Romania: A View on Contemporary Art Production” brings together nearly 80 works by 13 young Romanian artists who graduated within the past decade. BASE and Kale Tasarım ve Sanat Merkezi (KTSM) co-present “Take Good Care of Your World”, featuring a selection of works by 15 ceramic artists engaging with social and environmental concerns and imagining pathways to a more sustainable future. The BASE × Jumbo exhibition “The Memory of the Table” brings together artworks in which artists reinterpret Jumbo’s timeless designs, highlighting sustainable production and the rich cultural resonance of the dining table. GENÇ SANATIN HARİTASI: BASE 2025 Türkiye’deki yeni mezun sanatçıları aynı çatı altında buluşturan BASE, The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Istanbul B Blok’ta dokuzuncu edisyonuyla geri dönüyor. Ani Çelik Arevyan, Canan Dağdelen, Canan Tolon, Derya Yücel, Ebru Yetişkin, Eda Kehale Argün, Ferda Dedeoğlu, Gürbüz Doğan Ekşioğlu, Guido Casaretto, İnci Furni, İrfan Önürmen, İsmet Doğan, M. Wenda Koyuncu, Necmi Sönmez, Pınar Öğrenci ve Selim Bilen’in değerlendirmeleriyle şekillenen seçki, güncel sanatın genç seslerine kapsamlı bir alan açıyor. BASE’in dokuzuncu edisyonu üretimleri tam bu kesişimde konumlandırıyor”. BASESELECTED 2025 BASE, her gün ücretsiz olarak ziyarete açık olacak ve 2025 mezunlarının sergisinin yanı sıra eşzamanlı altı sergiye daha ev sahipliği yapacak. BASELECTED 2025, 2017’den bu yana BASE’e katılmış 65 genç sanatçının güncel üretimlerinden bir kesit sunacak. BASE ve Trendyol Sanat işbirliğindeki “Konuk Ülke Romanya: Çağdaş Sanat Üretimine Bakış” sergisi ise Romanya’dan son on yılda mezun olmuş 13 genç sanatçının yaklaşık 80 eserini bir araya getiriyor. BASE ve Kale Tasarım ve Sanat Merkezi (KTSM) ortaklığındaki “İyi Bak Dünyana” sergisi, toplumsal ve çevresel sorunlara duyarlı 15 seramik sanatçısının sürdürülebilir bir gelecek üzerine düşünen üretimlerini sunacak. BASE ve Jumbo işbirliğinde gerçekleşecek “Sofranın Hafızası”, sanatçıların zamansız Jumbo tasarımlarını yeniden yorumladıkları işleri odağına alarak sürdürülebilir sanat ve sofra kültürüne dikkat çekecek.
- Seyahat
Burada beni gerçek bir Banksy işi bekliyor: “Madonna with a Pistol”. Print YUZU MAGAZINE - II Out of Stock View Details No product
- Explora I: Cruise Review of Suite 8065 and Onboard Life
Explora I cruise review covers Suite 8065, its superyacht-inspired design, onboard dining and a voyage from Istanbul to Lesbos. August 15, 2025 | TRAVEL TR BELOW the MAN in SUITE 8065 words Onur Basturk Fifteen years ago, I took my very first cruise—also as a media guest—and quite literally walked into a film shoot happening on board. Now, years later, I’m back at sea. This time, there’s no director yelling “Cut!”, yet I can’t shake the feeling I’m in the middle of a movie. Maybe it’s the inevitable pull of the most famous ship in pop culture, the Titanic, planting that thought in my head. Or maybe the real magic lies in the fact that hundreds of people can spend days, weeks—even an entire month—on what is essentially a floating luxury mansion, barely stepping ashore except for organised excursions. And what does that mean? New friendships. Sudden romances. And yes… the occasional discreet intrigue. THE SHIP: EXPLORA I. THE SUITE: 43-SQUARE-METRE 8065 This particular journey is aboard Explora I, one of the newest additions to the MSC Group fleet—the third-largest cruise brand in the world. We set sail from Istanbul, and as I type, we’re gliding toward the island of Lesbos. Explora doesn’t look anything like your average passenger ship. For starters, there are only 461 suites, all with ocean views. Fewer people, more space—always a good thing. The ship’s sleek, superyacht-inspired design comes courtesy of British designer and architect Martin Francis, alongside long-time MSC collaborators SMC Design, AD Associates, and De Jorio Luxury and Yacht Projects. But I didn’t fully appreciate what sets Explora apart until I walked into Suite 8065. The space feels indulgent—43 square metres, I later discovered (with some suites reaching 70). There’s a living area, a separate walk-in wardrobe, and a bedroom cleverly divided by a partition. The best surprise? A large private balcony. At night, I’d sit out there, hypnotised by the rhythm of the waves in the open sea, half expecting a scene from Ruth Ware’s bestselling The Woman in Cabin 10 (soon to land on Netflix) to unfold. Luckily, unlike the travel-writer heroine of Ware’s novel, no one was thrown—or decided to throw themselves—off the balcony next door. And no, Ware’s plot has nothing to do with the real-life mystery of Dilek Ertek, the Turkish businesswoman thought to have fallen from a cruise ship near French Polynesia in 2022. That’s a whole other enigma—one that may yet get its own series or documentary. HOW DO YOU SPEND TIME AT SEA? The question I get the most: how do you fill your days on a cruise, especially when there’s nothing but water on the horizon? For me, during the 48-hour stretch sailing straight from Paros to Palermo, boredom never had a chance to make an appearance. Up on the very top deck, there’s an open-air track where I walked and ran (mostly to justify what came next). Then I gave in to the inevitable: eating and drinking my way through the voyage. Explora has six distinct restaurants—Japanese, French, Italian, a steakhouse, and more—plus the all-day Emporium Marketplace. Think buffet, but elevated and waste-conscious. How? Every station has an attendant who serves you—even if all you want is a single slice of cheese. At first, I found this slightly fussy. But then I remembered the mountain of untouched food I’ve seen piled high on buffet plates elsewhere, and the logic made perfect sense. One of my favourite spots was the Sky Lounge at the ship’s aft—the ultimate sunset perch for a glass (or several) of champagne, the horizon ahead, and a fleeting moment to wonder: Where is this ship—and my life—actually heading? OTHER NOTES FROM THE VOYAGE - The crew insists there’s “no plastic on board,” though I did see a passenger haul in a box of bottled water back in Paros. Technically, that shouldn’t have been allowed. - Explora’s RINA Dolphin Certification is a genuine highlight—the ship’s noise-reduction system means it disturbs dolphins far less than most vessels. Did I spot any? Absolutely—right as we were leaving Lesbos. - Your passport is collected when you board; your room key doubles as ID during shore excursions. Which means no passport weighing down your pocket on land. - And if you miss the ship’s departure time? It will leave without you. Rules are rules—and the sea, as they say, waits for no one. Explora 1’in süper yatı andıran tasarımında İngiliz tasarımcı ve mimar Martin Francis’le çalışılmış. Elbette geceleri balkonumdan açık denizdeki dalgaları hipnotize olmuş şekilde seyrederken Ruth Ware’in -yakında Netflix’te de gösterilecek- çok satan romanı “The Woman in 10 Cabin” aklıma geliyor. - Ailla: Luxury Hotel and Art in Yalıkavak
Ailla is a 13-room luxury hotel in Yalıkavak, Bodrum, with Aegean interiors, panoramic bay views, bespoke dining, and art exhibitions. November 2024 | DESIGN & INTERIORS TURKISH BELOW a CAPTIVATING ESCAPE in YALIKAVAK words Alp Tekin This summer, Ailla opened its doors in Yalıkavak, one of Bodrum’s most popular luxury destinations. With its panoramic views and personalized culinary offerings, the hotel quickly stood out. General Manager Deniz Arkayın shares insights into the creation of this unique retreat. Ailla was originally a mansion before being transformed into a hotel. What changes were made during this transformation? Before becoming a hotel, AILLA was a meticulously designed mansion seamlessly integrated with nature. For the 2024 season, we reimagined it as a sophisticated luxury hotel. We blended minimalism with an Aegean-inspired interior design concept. The property now features 13 uniquely designed rooms, ranging from 35 to 92 square meters, including sea-view rooms and swim-up suites. We also transformed the estate's magnificent 18,000-square-meter garden into a serene haven with an infinity pool and sunbathing areas, designed to offer guests a romantic and unforgettable experience. Perched on a prime location in Yalıkavak, Ailla boasts sweeping views of the entire bay. This setting allows guests to enjoy breathtaking sunsets, making it a truly special destination. Beyond the panoramic views, the hotel also gained attention for its art exhibitions… Indeed, summer for us means a season full of events, gatherings, and weddings. We hosted countless memorable moments against the backdrop of our stunning views. One highlight was the ‘AILLA’DA’ exhibition, created in collaboration with Galeri Selvin. Featuring 70 pieces by 10 sculptors and 5 painters, the exhibition was a resounding success. Being located in Bodrum, a region that continually raises the bar in the arts, inspires us to be more creative. We’re already planning new exhibitions for next summer. We also aim to make Ailla a year-round retreat, offering unique experiences in every season. For those looking to escape the city and unwind, our hotel will remain open throughout the winter, featuring an indoor pool, spa, and hammam services. Guests can enjoy cozy evenings by the fireplace and embrace the beauty of winter. In short, the season never ends at Ailla! What does the name Ailla mean? And how would you describe the hotel’s essence? Ailla refers to the thin, translucent light halo that surrounds the moon and the sun. We chose this name to reflect the mansion’s breathtaking views of sunsets, sunrises, and full moons. Every day at Ailla offers guests a new visual delight to wake up to. Our hotel is designed entirely around enjoyment. With a limited number of rooms, each guest gets to experience the mansion as their own private retreat. For instance, we don’t have fixed breakfast hours. Every detail is thoughtfully tailored to individual preferences. Our chef prepares personalized menus daily for each guest, offering a truly bespoke culinary experience. Do you plan to offer a beach or provide access to one for guests? Last summer, we hosted our guests at Xuma Beach. Additionally, for those seeking other beach experiences, our concierge team arranges reservations and VIP transfers to the desired locations.
- El Cosmico 3D-Printed Hotel by BIG and ICON in Marfa
BIG and ICON are developing El Cosmico, a 3D-printed camp hotel and housing project in Marfa, Texas, based on BIG's work with NASA for Mars and the Moon. March 2023 | Design & Interiors 3D hotel in the desert EL COSMICO D anish architecture studio BIG and ICON, which is building with 3D printers, are starting a new camp hotel and housing project called El Cosmico. El Cosmico in the town of Marfa, Texas will use the construction technology of 3D printers entirely. The interesting part of the project is this: The BIG team has been working with NASA for a while for structures that are resistant to the surface of Mars and the Moon. Here's what came out after that work: 3D printing on Mars and the Moon is the only viable option. The desert where El Cosmico is located also resembles Mars.
